The students learn in this course to independently explore and elaborate on advanced topis in Alpine Hydroclimatology. In the practical part this is realized by means of adaptation and application of simulation models for the mass and energy fluxes in the system atmosphere/hydrosphere in mountain regions and catchments. In the excursion part this knowledge can be demonstrated at locations of meteorological and hydrological observations.

The simulation system that will be used is the snow-hydrological model openAMUNDSEN. In a first step the required input data for the model will be jointly prepared, using R as programming environment. In a second step, the possibilites for model configuration will be explored and a series of model runs will be computed. In the third step the results will be analyzed, again by means of scripts developed in R.
