VU Remote Sensing: Automated analysis of remote sensing data with Python

In-depth understanding of GIS software functionality. Ability to develop complex and custom-made analysis and processing tools.

Course is divided into three parts: Point cloud analysis, analysis of optical satellite imagery, final project. First part deals with foundations of point cloud processing (Input/Output, point cloud features, PCA, segmentation). Second part covers fundamentals of raster data processing and vis. (numpy, matplotlib), introduction to machine learning and derivation of land surface phenology from timeseries. Third part consists of individual projects.

Fundamental knowledge of GIS and Remote Sensing (optical satellite remote sensing, laserscanning). Recommended requirements: VU Python for Geographers. Prior knowledge of basics in programming required. Attendance possible with previous knowledge of other languages (R, Matlab, ...) if willing to work through python fundamentals independently.
