To give an overview over current technologies of organic waste treatment with a focus on microbiology - Definition 'organic wastes' (green waste, biowaste, sewage sludges, agricultural by-product, residues of food industries etc) - Chemical composititon of organic wastes (nutrients, micronutrients, macromolecules such as lignin, cellulose, chitin, murein, proteins, hemicelluloses etc) - Microbiology of degradation of natural compounds occurring in organic wastes (lignin, cellulose, …etc.) - Problems of utilization (heavy metals, xenobiotics, odour formation, pathogens, etc…) - Technical approaches or treatment (composting, vermicomposting, anaerobic digestion et….) - Comparisons of methods (cost/benefit, greenhouse gas production, ….) - residue treatment and effects on soils - future perspectives (energy, secondary metabolites, proteins et from organic wastes)

- SDG 13 - Climate action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts by regulating emissions and promoting developments in renewable energy.
