The students should get acquainted with statistical research methods and will be able to apply them to research problems.

Group 3+4: Students can use statistical programmes (R and/or SPSS) to carry out basic steps in data processing and analysis. This includes the selection of suitable methods as well as their implementation and interpretation.

Contents: Basic use of SPSS, defining the attributes of variables, computing variables, exploratory analysis, description of data, Chi-squared test, correlation analysis, t-test, Mann-Whitney-U-Test

Group 3+4: Procedures for creating and importing data sets, their modification (e.g. coding and recoding, definition of variable properties, calculation of scale means), descriptive analysis (e.g. distribution measures, graphical representation of distributions) and simple inferential statistical procedures (e.g. chi-square test, t-test, U-test, correlations) are presented and practised.
