The students possess knowledge about the similarities and distinctions between the various economic theory approaches and understand the implications and significance of their underlying assumptions.

Students will be able to identify, distinguish and apply different theories based on their basic premises. They can discuss critically the methods of how knowledge about economics is gained.

Students are able to tell the advantages and disadvantages of the application of different economic theories on current and future problems and challenges.

The course consists of lectures as well as group assigments, in which the lecture topics will be discussed, further worked out and presented.
The course’s aim is to give an overview over a multitude of economic theories.
Challenges like change, common good, uncertainty and power are fundamental parts of these approaches.
Being able to take different perspectives can help to understand the complexities of the economic system better.
(The economic theories range from theories of "Mainstream economics" to more heterodox approaches.)
The course consists of lectures regarding Evolutionary Economics, Marxist Political Economics, Behaviorial Economics, Postkeynesianism, Ecological Economics, Institutional Economics as well as a seminar that gives room to reflect, discuss and apply the learning material.
