Students have gained insights into recent perspectives of inequality research. They acquired knowledge about selected topics, data and methods and about the connection between inequality and political and economic institutions.

Inequality is increasingly becoming a topic of discussion, both in terms of the growing gap within some, even wealthy, societies, and with regard to global conditions. The seminar will address both historical perspectives and current debates in inequality research. In particular, the focus will be on the connection between inequality dynamics and political and economic institutions.

Another key aspect of the seminar will be the approaches of the participants (disciplinary or interdisciplinary), which will be provided through presentations and literature recommendations.

Lecture, discussion, project work

Continuous participation, participation in discussion, own presentations, written project report (if applicable)

TBA

The seminar is explicitly aimed at interested students from ALL fields of study. Besides that, it is contextualized in the DK "Dynamics of Inequality and Difference in the Age of Globalization".

The seminar starts with a pure and brief preliminary session at 11 Oct (online participation possible). The actual course is organized in four blocked dates from 22 Nov (presence only).
