Participants in the course will gain in-depth knowledge of the necessary sectoral changes in energy systems, industrial and resource systems, land use and food systems, and sustainable urban environments that are essential for the transition to a net zero economy and the associated practical challenges. They will learn how to combine theoretical knowledge with practical field experience to analyze complex sustainability problems and develop innovative research projects that can be directly integrated into their academic research and dissertations.

The research seminar deepens the understanding of the transition to a Net Zero Economy. It includes thematic blocks on energy systems, industrial and resource systems, land use and food systems, as well as sustainable cities and urban systems. Additionally, system perspectives and governance policies are addressed. Each block combines theoretical insights with practical input through company presentations and discussions on current challenges and technologies. During a two-day offsite research event, students develop research projects that transform practical and theoretical approaches into scientific questions for their doctoral theses.
