Acquaintance with the mechanical behavior of rock and the pertinent laboratory and field tests. Stress, deformation and stability of underground during tunneling are explained on the basis of simple principles of mechanics. The students learn to consider theoretical tools not as black boxes but rather to understand them as well as the underlying assumptions.

• Rock elasticity and plasticity
• strength of intact and joined rock
• rock permeability
• rock grouting
• laboratory and field tests
• principles of arching in rock
• limit analysis
• ground lines
• face stability
• stress measurement
• surface settlements
• rock reinforcing, anchorng
• blasts, vibrations
• ground water

Lecture and guided works

written/verbal immanent

As it is a VU (lecture with exercise) with immanent evaluation, it is obligatory to be present during the courses.
