The students are able to master integrative design and planning tasks. They can independently and in a reflective manner formulate an architectural concept, link it to the discourse and implement it on different scales. They have specific methodological knowledge and skills in integrating aesthetic, functional, programmatic, urban, typological, technical and ecological aspects.

PUBLIC TRANSFORMER Including Spaces for Many

PUBLIC TRANSFORMER is something that manages currents; it can generate voltage and it can reduce tensions. Energies from various directions converge in and around it: it is a space for gathering and consolidation.

But it is also a PUBLIC CONDENSOR: after charging, it leads to relaxation and calm. PUBLIC CONDENSOR offers opportunities for new deposits to form during this cooling-down period: new, beautiful, iridescent layers.

PUBLIC TRANSFORMER is a shape-shifter; it functions differently during the day than at night and looks different as well. It works differently for young people than for those over 60, for Gen-Z differently than for Boomers—but it always brings them together. It is both old and brand new. It is a rough block and it is super-fine.

PUBLIC TRANSFORMER is an integrator because it is attractive to its users. It also generates architectural neighborhoods: interior and exterior spaces, intimate and public spaces, old building stock and new sustainable materials. The aesthetics of the existing with completely different, contemporary ideas of "beauty."

PUBLIC TRANSFORMER creates dynamic spaces. Spaces for appropriation and reinterpretation—informal, unfinished spaces. It allows for self-determined uses: actions that are not forced by planned structural requirements. Spaces for change that can also accommodate future unknown scenarios. PUBLIC TRANSFORMER is sustainable: socially, ecologically, and economically.

You will try out new forms and apply them to a range of scenarios (what's apt, what's not?). You will work with a variety of stakeholders. You will transform a parking structure in the center of Innsbruck. You will turn an "ugly duckling" (the market garage in IBK) into a "beauty." You will operate on different scales: from the object to the city. You will explore the current situation through field research. You will work individually and in groups. You will interact in workshops* with your colleagues from E1 and E2. You will receive inputs from other disciplines. In the summer semester, you will work with E2 to implement hybrid objects 1:1. You will place these mobile objects in the public space of Innsbruck as part of a series of events (exhibition, discussion, lecture) on the topic. You will make your projects accessible to a wider audience.

Birgit Brauner / Karl-Heinz Machat / Xotil Natke / Dagmar Reinhardt Weekly starting Thursday, October 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM Occasionally also on Wednesdays for workshops, presentations, and deep dives.

In cooperation with: HouseEurope!, Judith Götz, Linda Rausch, Peter Erspamer, Tamara Falch, Michael Kaserer

Course examination according to § 6, statute section on "study-law regulations".

Will be discussed in the first lesson.
