Students will be able to:
- Understand the fundamentals of digital transmission systems:
- Explain the principles of digitizing analog signals.
- Describe the challenges and solutions in digital transmission over noisy channels.
- Analyze stochastic signals and explain their significance in transmission technology.
- Know and analyze various digital transmission methods:
- Compare and evaluate binary and M-ary transmission systems.
- Explain the operation and characteristics of ASK, FSK, PSK, and QAM.
- Differentiate between coherent and non-coherent reception methods and discuss their advantages and disadvantages.
- Use signal spaces to visualize and analyze digital modulation techniques.
- Evaluate the performance of digital transmission systems:
- Calculate and interpret error probabilities.
- Apply the 1st Nyquist criterion to determine the maximum achievable data rate in a band-limited channel.
- Understand fundamental concepts of information theory:
- Define and calculate channel capacity.
- Explain the Shannon limit in digital transmission and discuss its significance for transmission technology.
