Students are familiar with the mathematical foundations of digital signal processing. They understand under which conditions sampling in the time domain does not lead to a loss of information. They can describe discrete linear time invariant systems (LTI systems) in the time domain as well as in the z domain. They know how to determine the frequency behavior and stability of digital filters. They also know how to represent filters algebraically as well as graphically and can switch between these representations. They are familiar with the effects and limiting factors of spectral analysis via DFT. They understand the influence of digital noise on the properties of filters.

Sampling theorem; basics of A/D conversion; discrete signals; convolution; LTI systems: definition, stability and frequency behavior; z transform; basics of digital filters; solving difference equations; recursive and non-recursive systems; discrete Fourier transform (DFT); fast fourier transform (FFT); data windowing; implementation and synthesis of FIR and IIR filters; digital noise;

Lecture, assessment is based on a single examination at the end of the course.

Oral examination

Will be discussed in the first lesson.
