Overview of the fundamental principles and methodologies of private international law (also known as “conflict of laws”)

The course will mainly focus on the Austrian International Private Law Act (IPRG), the harmonised set of rules within the European Union, in particular the Rome Regulations, as well as international treaties.

Lecture, discussion of case law

Part of the diploma exams on civil law

Lurger/Melcher, Bürgerliches Recht VII - IPR (2nd ed. 2020)

The subject matter of the lecture requires at least a basic knowledge of the substantive law conveyed to civil law in the other lectures, especially the law of obligations and property. International private law should therefore be completed after these lectures, if possible at the same time, at least not in reverse order.

Enrolment via LFU-online. The class will be taught during the first half of the semester. The first session is online (pre-recorded video).
