The teaching of a broad basic knowledge in Earth sciences will provide to the students an insight in geological processes and process-oriented geological thinking. Furthermore geological exploration methods are presented and their resolution as well interpretation limits will be discussed. This class should help the future engineers to better consider the properties of the subsoil and to facilitate the cooperation with geologists.

With Prof. Strasser:

  • The structure of the earth

  • plate tectonics

  • Important minerals and rocks

  • Depositional environments and processes

  • Formation and interpretation of divisional geological surfaces

  • Interpreting geological maps and cross sections

  • Regional Geology

  • Geological processes and their influx on the subsoil

  • geological exploration methods

  • Hydrogeology

  • Examples from practise

With Dr. Heißel:

  • Demonstration of geological processes and their influence on soil and bedrock and therefore on the foundation ground
  • Possibilities and limitations of the geological and technical-geological model-conceptions of the foundation ground and of their prognoses
  • Monitoring in the way of technical geology
  • How to make projects for all phases of projects in connection with important legal regulations
