Compulsory Module 1: Doctoral Thesis Defense (5 ECTS-Credits)

Prerequisites for registration: Positive completion of all other modules and positive evaluation of the dissertation.
Learning Outcome: Presentation, reflection on, and analysis of the dissertation results in the
overall context of the doctoral study programme; the focus is on
summarizing and explaining results of the research project, on presenting
the increase in knowledge for the discipline, on demonstrating evaluation
and methodical competences as well as on presenting the results.
Compulsory Module 2: Analysis of Own and External Research Results (10 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: After the completion of this module, students are familiar with the relevant
literature in their special field. They are able to present topics from their
dissertation area visually and orally.
Compulsory Module 3: Core Subject (10 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Having successfully completed this module, students are able to actively
participate in the discussion of the current state of knowledge in the area
of the dissertation and can critically reflect on and discuss issues with
experts of the chosen partial discipline in physics. On this basis, they are
able to make their own contributions to research.
Compulsory Module 4: Participation in Scientific Discourse (10 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Presenting research results in national and international forums, acquiring
basic skills in research management and in applying for research funds;
students analyze and critically assess their own research results and those
of others; creation of a culture that is committed to research ethics and
rejects plagiarism.
Compulsory Module 5: Interdisciplinary Seminar in the PhD Program (2.5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students are able to actively reflect on the current state of knowledge in
the area of the dissertation topic and relevant related scientific disciplines.
Students possess didactic skills which enable them to clearly present their
research results to both laypersons and experts and to explain complicated
relationships in a clearly understandable way.
Compulsory Module 6: Scientific Basics/Core Skills of the Thesis Topic (15 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: After the successful completion of this module, students have the high
level of interdisciplinary knowledge necessary for working on the
dissertation.
Compulsory Module 7: Generic Skills (7.5 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: After the successful completion of this module, students have advanced
theoretical and practical knowledge, skills and competencies in selected
disciplines, as well as methods and general skills which enable them to
pursue independent scientific activities and help them succeed in their
future careers.
