Module 1: History of Historiography (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Insight of historiographical development of the core areas of Historical Sciences in general, on the background of the current international situation, in Austria as well as history of subdisciplines of Historical Sciences; networking skills in terms of current methodological discussions.
Module 2: Excursion: Master Programme History (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 3 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Analytical skills in terms of traces of the past in cultural areas, critical examination of
archaeological and historical sites as well as of objects in museums, collections, expositions and constructive examination of the auratic impact of originals and/or their forms of (re)presentation; skills for presenting historical connections in situ.
Module 3: Theory of Gender Relations (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students will gain competence to critical reflection on questions about gender relations and their meanings.
Module 4: Research Workshop I (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 3 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Elaboration of questions including an overview of scientific literature and sources for the Master thesis; communication and foundation of the student's own research concept, reflection of the student's own scientific work; transfer of the student's knowledge to new, uncommon topics, peer review learning, exercise in dealing with constructive criticism, assessment of relevant discussions on research.
Module 5: Research Workshop II (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 3 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Presentation of questions of the Master thesis including an overview of scientific literature and sources; communication, foundation and defense of the student's own research concept, content and conclusions; reflection of the student's own scientific work, transfer of the student's knowledge to new, uncommon topics; peer review learning, exercise in dealing with constructive criticism, assessment of controversies in current research.
Module 6: Master Thesis Defense (2.5 ECTS-Credits)

Prerequisites for registration: positive completion of all other compulsory and elective modules as well as the Master thesis
Learning Outcome: Examination of the Master thesis in the overall context of the Master programme in History; with special focus on theoretical comprehension, methodical issues, communication of findings of the Master thesis and presentation skills.
