Learning Outcome: Students possess an insight into the working techniques and methods of musicology; they know the basic concepts and theories; in popular music they possess knowledge of historical connections.

Module 7: Popular Music (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: Students possess comprehensive factual knowledge and an advanced understanding of major areas of popular music especially of jazz, rock and pop music and of the methods of popular music research.
Module 8: Harmony and Counterpoint (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students possess basic knowledge of harmony and counterpoint and are able to recognise technical features and stereotypes in the context of the single piece.
Module 9: Musical Acoustics and Transcription (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: Students possess basic knowledge in the area of musical acoustics and transcriptions as well as knowledge of EDV assisted analysis and research methods (e.g. sound analysis).

Module 14: Seminars in Musical History and Comparative Systematics (10 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: Positive completion of at least eight compulsory modules.
Learning Outcome: Students possess in-depth knowledge of separate areas and topics of historical and comparative systematic musicology.
