Module 16: Italian Literature, History and Society (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: Positive completion of compulsory modules 3, 7 and 8.
Learning Outcome: Through the module "Letteratura, storia e società in Italia" the students are familiar with the various periods of Italian literary history with close attention to the main political and social developments. With special attention to all the genres, they have practised analytical and interpretational competences with examples which go back to the literary science competences acquired in the "Basics". Students are made aware of the dynamic relations between literature, politics and society and can make topics out of the meaning of literature for the collective memory and out of questions of national identity.
Module 17: Italy and its Literature (15 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Prerequisites for registration: Positive completion of compulsory module 16.
Learning Outcome: Students are familiar with the writers and works of Italian literature that are accorded great relevance both in literary history and nowdays because they act as precursors of literary periods (Humanism, Renaissance, Enlightenment, the Romantic period) or reflect historical developments (Risorgimento, Fascism, Resistance) or they represent present-day phenomena and tendencies (Post-Modern, Globalisation, Migration, Media-Aesthetics). Through their reading list students are familiar with the important works of the literary canon. They can complete the module in two successive semesters.
Module 18: Italian Literature From an Interdisciplinary Point of View (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4h)
Prerequisites for registration: Positive completion of compulsory module 16.
Learning Outcome: In teaching units for specific areas of Italian literature the students have acquired enhanced knowledge. They have dealt with published works in Italian whose content points to specific Italian realities and issues.
