Module 9: World Languages (5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Elementary knowledge of language typology, growing awareness of the enormous diversity of languages to awaken an interest in them.
Module 10: Linguistics of Writing (5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Understanding of writing as a special cultural technique and assessment of texts as a result of a process.
Module 11: Linguistics of Speaking (5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Knowledge of the basic methods and findings of conversational linguistics and of research into the spoken language; ability to apply this knowledge to monological and dialogical utterances.
Module 12: Structural Linguistics (5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Recognition of the grammatical structure and their function, ability to analyse spoken utterances.
Module 13: Linguistics of Media and Communication (5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: Positive completion of compulsory modules 7, 10, 11, 12 and 23.
Learning Outcome: An example of an encounter with the basic questions of the links between language, media and communication, basic knowledge and skills of media, and communications analysis.
Module 14: Historical Linguistics (5 ECTS-Credits, 3 h)
Prerequisites for registration: Positive completion of compulsory modules 7 and 12.
Learning Outcome: Overview of stability and change in medieval German in morphology, phonology and syntax and a glance at the structure and historical development of German vocabulary with reference to etymology, historical word formation and the interaction between language change and social development.
Module 15: Contemporary Language (10 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: Positive completion of compuslory modules 2, 10, 11 and 12.
Learning Outcome: Ability to analyse contemporary utterances and texts at all levels.
