Module 1: History of Historiography and Gender Studies (10 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students have gained an insight into the history of historical sciences against the background of the global discourse on the theories of history. They are able to link current discussions about theories and methods with previous historic and transdisciplinary discourses. They are able to explain and critically reflect on issues of gender relations and their importance.
Module 2: Historical Excursion (5 ECTS-Credits, 3 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students advance their knowledge in recognizing, evaluating and explaining different forms of historic presentation. They advance their competences to present historic interrelations on site and to deconstruct ways of presentation.
Module 3: Historical Ancillary Disciplines and Media Studies (2.5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students acquire the instruments for understanding and evaluating different sources and media. They use their competences in critical use of media and sources and are able to use their source-critical skills for developing own questions.
Three seminars corresponding to 15 ECTS-Credits must be passed. They can be selected from three or two of the following key areas:
SE Ancient History: (2 hrs., 5 ECTS-Credits)
SE Middle Ages: (2 hrs., 5 ECTS-Credits)
SE Modern Times: (2 hrs., 5 ECTS-Credits)
SE Economic and Social History(2 hrs., 5 ECTS-Credits) SE Austrian History: (2 hrs., 5 ECTS-Credits)
SE Contemporary History: (2 hrs., 5 ECTS-Credits)
Advanced expert knowledge gained through dealing with a topical area of the six historic key areas.
Module 4: Advanced Topics (15 ECTS-Credits, 6 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students deal with new themes in selected key areas. They understand and evaluate them as well as argument with regards to scientific dynamics and trends of the respective key areas. They understand the strengths and weaknesses of the different methodological approaches. They gain competences in independent formulating of questions and argumentations.
Module 5: History as Academic Discipline and Discourse (10 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students present the research issues of their Masters Theses including an overview of research literature and source situation. They explain and substantiate their conceptual design and the contents dealt with. They analyse, compare and evaluate their own and other research concepts and results. They deal with research questions from controversial perspectives. They handle peer review and different scientific presentation formats.
Three courses from the Module: Subject-Specific Specialization must be passed:
VO Subject-Specific Specialization: (2 hrs., 2.5 ECTS-Credits) VU Subject-Specific Specialization: (2 hrs., 2.5 ECTS-Credits) Selected chapters from a field in history, e.g. thematical longitudinal sections, historic cross-sections, non-European history, regional history, gender history.
Module 6: Subject-Specific Specialization (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 6 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students have a command of the topics dealt with in the courses and are able to contextualize and interpret the acquired factual knowledge. They are confident in recognizing of relationships and in structuring historic routines and processes
Module 7: Research Practice (10 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students undertake assisted research of sources and/or test their source-critical skills. They present their results in different media formats.
COURSES
Providing the availability of places, courses amounting to 10 ECTS-Credits must be selected from the curricular of Master¿s and or Diploma Programmes at the University of Innsbruck. It is recommended to pass courses from the programme of the Master¿s Programme in History.
Module 8: Interdisciplinary Skills (10 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The requirements specified by the respective curricula must be met.
Learning Outcome: This module aims at expanding the study programme and at the acquisition of additional qualifications.

Module 9: Master's Thesis Defense (2.5 ECTS-Credits)

Prerequisites for registration: positive completion of all other compulsory and elective modules as well as the Master's Thesis
Learning Outcome: Examination of the Master's Thesis in the overall context of the Master's Programme in History; with special focus on theoretical comprehension, methodical issues, communication of findings of the Master's Thesis and presentation skills.
