Learning Outcome: Graduates of this module optimize their ability to interpret Latin texts in consideration of literary studies. They are able to independently find appropriate secondary literature for a literary-scientific questions and to locate it within concepts of literary theory. They can critically examine different research opinions and, based on this, comment on a research question themselves.

Learning Outcome: Graduates of this module know literary theoretical approaches and models from antiquity to the present and can use these for the interpretation of ancient texts. They have a highly specialized knowledge about current research issues, can deal with them critically and take a well-founded stand towards them.
Compulsory Module 4: Thematic Specialisation (10 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Graduates of this module advance their knowledge in ancient literature and acquire a sound knowledge of individual areas of Latin literature. They know the characteristics of texts by specific authors and genres and are able to detect them in texts. They are able to trace the development of a genre or the treatment of a topic in different epochs of literary history and to located the changes within their cultural and historic contexts.
Compulsory Module 5: Mediaeval and Neo-Latin Language and Literature (5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: Graduates of this module have an overview of Medieval and Neo-Latin and literature:
They can trace the development of the Latin language after antiquity and elaborate the linguistic characteristics of the Medieval and Neo-Latin on texts of the respective epoch. They have acquired a basic knowledge of the history and culture of the Middle Ages and modern times. They know the Medieval Latin authors and works of the Middle Ages and modern times and can located them in their historical and cultural context. They have dealt with the relationship of Medieval and Neo Latin literature to ancient literature and developed an awareness of its importance for European intellectual history. In addition, they gained insight into specific genres and topics of Medieval and Neo Latin literature and learned about the most important aids and methods for their interpretation.
Compulsory Module 6: Advanced Topics in Medieval and Neo-Latin (5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: Graduates of this module have expanded their knowledge and skills in the field of post-antique Latinity: They have advanced their language and translation skills in the field of Neo Latin literature and gained a sound knowledge of the linguistic characteristics of Neo Latin. They are able to precisely locate the texts dealt with in their historic and cultural context and have advanced their knowledge of Neo Latin literature. They have acquired basic knowledge of Latin Palaeography and are able to read medieval and early modern manuscripts.
Compulsory Module 7: Extensive Reading I (5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: Graduates have optimized their ability to read Latin texts either from antiquity, the Middle Ages or the early modern period. They are able to read longer passages of Latin works and reproduce their contents in the form of a translation. They acquire specialized knowledge of a selection of Latin texts from various genres and can connect them to their knowledge of literary history. At the same time they improve their competence for analysing poetry.
Compulsory Module 8: Extensive Reading II (10 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)

Learning Outcome: Graduates have optimized their ability to read Latin texts either from antiquity, the Middle Ages or the early modern period. They are able to read longer passages of Latin works and reproduce their contents in the form of a translation. They acquire specialized knowledge of a selection of Latin texts from various genres and can connect them to their knowledge of literary history. At the same time they improve their competence for analysing poetry.
Präzisierung der Fragestellung, Erstellung einer Auswahlbibliographie, Erarbeitung eines theoretisch und methodisch fundierten Exposés, einschließlich der Beschreibung der weiteren Arbeitsschritte. Planung eines entsprechenden Zeitrahmens für die Durchführung der Masterarbeit.
