Elective Modules (30 ECTS-Credits)
One elective module covering 10 ECTS-Credits is to be passed from elective modules 1, 2 or 3. Students of the Bachelor's Programme Slavonic Studies select the third Slavonic language, elective module 2 or 3, depending on their preselection in the Bachelor's Programme Slavonic Studies. In addition, elective modules covering altogether 10 ECTS-Credits are to be passed from elective modules 4 to 17. Courses that have a clear reference to Eastern/Central or South-Eastern Europe and are marked accordingly in the course catalogue may be selected. In addition, the following applies: - Students of the Bachelor's Programme Political Science may not select elective modules 4 and 5. - Students of the Bachelor's Programme Sociology may not select elective module 6. - Students of the Bachelor's Programme History may not select elective modules 7 - 9. - Students of the Bachelor's Programme Art History may not select elective modules 10 - 14. - Students of the Bachelor's Programme Slavonic Studies may not select elective modules 15 - 17.

Elective Module 1: Command of Language Russian (Basic Course) (10 ECTS-Credits; 8 h) (no courses)

Learning Outcome: Acquisition of basic communicative and intercultural skills; command of basic grammar and lexis (level A1/A2)
Elective Module 4: Comparative Politics (5 ECTS-Credits; 2 h) (no courses)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students acquire the ability to name different analytical approaches of political science comparison and to present and explain selected concepts of comparative government.
Elective Module 6: Sociology (5 ECTS-Credits; 2 h) (no courses)

Learning Outcome: This module serves to gain in-depth knowledge in selected subject areas of sociology. The students specialise in one or more subject and acquire in-depth knowledge in it.
Elective Module 7: Region and History (5 ECTS-Credits; 2 h) (no courses)

Learning Outcome: Recognising of interdependencies between historic micro- and macro-perspective and the specific relevance of a parochial perspective of history and its special issues and chances for insights
Elective Module 8: Advanced Topics in Austrian History (7.5 ECTS-Credits; 2 h) (no courses)

Learning Outcome: Acquisition of the skill, to formulate a suitable question on a topic in Austrian History after the research discussion. ability to analyse a topic supported by sources; ability to present the research results in an appropriate way with regards to contents and form; skill to critically reflect on the relevance and the methods of own¿s own work
Elective Module 10: Periods of Art History I (5 ECTS-Credits; 2 h) (no courses)

Learning Outcome: The students possess a wide factual knowledge and an advanced understanding of the art of late Antiquity, of the Early Middle Ages and of Byzantine art.
Elective Module 12: Painting, Graphics and New Media (5 ECTS-Credits; 2 h) (no courses)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students grasp the basic problems of the two-dimensional presentation of three-dimensional reality and are able to present these in an adequate way.
Elective Module 14: Excursion: Art History II (10 ECTS-Credits; 7 h) (no courses)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students examine and complete their theoretically acquired knowledge by studying works of art and buildings in their original setting
