Compulsory Module 1: Specialization in the Subject of the Doctoral Thesis (20 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Highly specialised knowledge in the field of the doctoral thesis and at the intersection with other contexts and fields that go beyond the scope of individual projects.
Courses in the subject area of the doctoral thesis or related to the subject area of the doctoral thesis, the selection of which is to be approved by the main supervisor, in accordance with the dissertation agreement, corresponding to 20 ECTS-Credits, two courses of which must be seminars corresponding to 4 or more ECTS-Credits.
Compulsory Module 2: Philosophy of Science (6 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Highly specialised knowledge in modern theory of science and its history; ability to critically analyse one's own scientific work and place it in an academic context, and especially to recognise uncritical applications of models and methods from other areas of science. Excellent knowledge of central conflicts in the history of theology and of systematically central questions in the theory of science of theology; ability to critically evaluate dif-ferent theological models and to reflect on their own basic theological options.
Compulsory Module 3: Didactics of Sciences and Participation in the Scientific Discourse (6 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)

Learning Outcome: Acquisition of didactic knowledge and competences in the fields of teaching and learning at universities and for presentation of science to an (expert) audience that prepare for teaching at theological universities, seminars, theological study houses, the managing of church institutions as well as knowledge transfer to the public.
Ability to be sustainably engaged in the development of new ideas in learning and presentation contexts. Expanding the competence for analysing and critically assessing the presentation of scientific performance of oneself and others. Advanced study of the knowledge in the subject of the doctoral thesis and awareness of interdisciplinary contexts of individual theological disciplines by including them in structured discussion processes with representatives of the subject of the doctoral thesis as well as other theological subjects.
Compulsory Module 4: Extension in Further Subjects (12 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Highly specialised knowledge of the state of research in one additional subject of the doctoral programme; expanding of the knowledge at the intersection to other subjects on a high level.
Courses from at least one further subject acc. to §7 par. 2 from the course offer of the Doctoral Programme in Catholic Theology and from the PhD-Programme at the Faculty of Catholic Theology. The courses serve the advanced study of further subjects and make it possi-ble to broaden the theological competence beyond the subject of the dissertation.
Compulsory Module 5: Plurality and Unity in Theological Subjects (14 ECTS-Credits)

Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Advanced study of theological literature aiming at sustainably linking the highly specialised knowledge acquired during the writing of the doctoral thesis, with a broader context of traditional and contemporary research.
Self-study of specialist literature in areas going beyond the dissertation topic in the narrower sense. Specific literature from the dissertation subject and another subject according to the list in §7 par. 2 must be se-lected. As a basis for this, the Dean of Studies will publish a list of standard literature after consulting the subject¿s representatives.
Compulsory Module 6: Doctoral Thesis Defense (Rigorosum) (2 ECTS-Credits)

Prerequisites for registration: positive evaluation of compulsory modules 1-5 as well as the Doctoral Thesis.
Learning Outcome: Qualification to present, reflect on, and analyse the results of the dissertation in the overall context of the doctoral programme; to summarise and explain the results of the research project, to present the gain of knowledge for the discipline; to demonstrate evaluation and methodical competences, as well as presentation skills on an outstanding scientific level.
