Compulsory module 1: Methodological Fundamentals of Historic Linguistics (10 ECTS-Credits, 6 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students are able to describe the research fields, theories and methods of linguistics. They can explain the tools and working methods of historical linguistics and use them independently. They have an overview of the Proto-Indo-European language and the subsequent languages resulting from it and can present the problems and research approaches of Indo-European studies.
Compulsory module 2: Introduction to the Written Cultures of the Ancient Near East (10 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students are able to identify and describe the various cuneiform languages of the Ancient Near East and reproduce and apply classical philological working methods. They know the texts passed down and can interpret ancient and recent sources. They are able to present an overview of the history of the Near East and Egypt and to describe central questions, guidelines as well as political and social conditions of the ancient Near Eastern cultural area.
