Elective module 1 :Media Research and Media Practice (10 ECTS-Credits, 5 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students can outline selected themes of media research, discuss the approaches and results and test their skills in media practice. They are able to discuss basic questions of the interrelations between language, media and communication and to apply basic methods of linguistic media and communication analysis.

Learning Outcome: Students have in-depth knowledge of an exemplary sub-area of synchronic linguistics. They have insight into the functioning/use of language in general and French/Italian/Spanish in particular. They have competences in independent scientific-empirical work and formulation of results as well as in lecture and presentation techniques.
Elective module 3: Gender Studies (5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)

Learning Outcome: Knowledge of basic questions of theory formation, insight into socio-cultural contexts and the historicity of gender
Elective module 4: Media and Culture in the Anglophone Countries (5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: Students will be able to present, explain and discuss basics from media studies, media history and media analysis in the cultural and media context of the respective English language area. They are able to describe and assess cultural structures, institutions and phenomena and apply them to the context of American Studies.

Learning Outcome: Knowledge of terms in media analysis, media theory and intermediality theory; competence to apply intermedial and media-specific methods of analysis (e.g. film analysis)
Elective module 6: Comparative Perspective on New Media (5 ECTS-Credits 2 h)

Learning Outcome: Knowledge of central terms, topics and methodological concepts of media research from a comparative perspective; exemplary insight in comparative research approaches on new media
Elective module 7: Media, Film and Culture in Eastern Europe (5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students are able to assess the media landscape in Russia, East, Central and South-
East Europe and to use their knowledge for finding solutions to specific problems.
They are able to characterise and assess literary texts, genres and films in consideration of
different methodological approaches. They are able to solve actual problems by using their
knowledge.
Elective module 8: Film in Eastern/Central/South-Eastern Europe (5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)

Learning Outcome: Based on specific problems, students can present and explain the aesthetics of film, pertinent methodological approaches as well as the history of film in Eastern Europe.
