Faculty of Teacher Education
Master's Programme Secondary School Teacher Training (General Education) according to the curriculum 2018 (120 ECTS-Credits, 4 semesters)
Compulsory Modules (25 ECTS-Credits)
Compulsory Module 2: Thermodynamics (5 ECTS-Credits; 3 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Graduates of this module can describe and explain thermodynamics as a basis of experimental and theoretical physics and are able to independently elaborate similar contents. They are able to generalize the fundamentals of thermodynamics and are able to apply them for finding solutions to problems as well as in school.

Bachelor's Programme Physics according to the Curriculum 2007 (180 ECTS-Credits, 6 semesters)
Elective Module 3: Solid Body Physics (5 ECTS-Credits, 4h)
Learning Outcome: Students are able to explain the fundamentals of solid body physics and they are able to independently elaborate similar contents. They know how to generalize the basics of solid body physics and to apply for solving problems.
Elective Module 6: Individual Choice of Specialisation (5 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The prerequisites of the respective curricula do apply.
Modules from the curricula of the bachelor¿s programmes at the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Pharmacy, Geo- and Atmospheric Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Sciences and Physics and Engineering Sciences at the University of Innsbruck with a total of 5 ECTS-Credits can be selected freely in order to focus the choice of specialization.

Master's Programme Physics according to the Curriculum 2007 (120 ECTS-Credits, 4 semesters)
Third and Fourth Semester
Elective Module 3: Seminar (Q) (5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Graduates of this module are expected to reflect the problems of quantum
physics in a creative and methodical manner and to present the results clearly through written reports and/or oral presentation.
Elective Module 6: Research Class in Experimental Quantum Physics (12.5 ECTS-Credits, 8h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Graduates of this module are expected to conduct actual research by guided
accomplishment of projects in Quantum Physics. They should have
acquired the ability to conduct innovative experiments by themselves
(attended by tutors). Furthermore, they should have acquired a deeper
understanding of experimental techniques in Quantum Physics.

Rainer Blatt, Francesca Ferlaino, Rudolf Grimm, Gerhard Kirchmair, Hanns-Christoph Nägerl, Tracy Eleanor Northup, Gregor Weihs
Details of this course
Graduates should enroll in lecture courses of the Faculty of Mathematics,
Computer Science and Physics marked by 'WP' (Wahlmodul Physik =
elective module in Physics) corresponding to a workload of 15 ECTS-Credits.
Alternatively, they may enroll in modules of the Master Programmes in
Mathematics or Computer Science, which are not part of the Master
Programme in Physics.
Elective Module 38: Elective Module (15 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The prerequisites specified in the respective curricula must be met.
Learning Outcome: Graduates should acquire further knowledge in addition to the contents of the
compulsory modules (2) and the elective modules (3) out of the fields of
Mathematics or Computer Science or further knowledge in one or more
fields of Physics.

"Doctor of Philosophy" - Doctor of Philosophy Programme Physics according to the Curriculum 2009 (180 ECTS-Credits, 6 semesters)
Compulsory Modules (30 ECTS-Credits)
Compulsory Module 2: Scientific Basics/Core Skills in the Thesis Topic (10 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Having successfully completed this module, students are able to discuss the
current state of knowledge in the area of the dissertation and can critically
reflect on and discuss issues with experts of the chosen sub discipline. On
this basis, they are able to make their own contributions to research. Likewise the students have interface knowledge at a high professional level which is needed for the implementation of the dissertation.
