Minor: Medieval Studies (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The Minor "Medieval Studies" covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor. The individual modules and courses of the Minor "Medieval Studies" may be studied, providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor "Medieval Studies" know fundamental theories, methods and contents of medieval studies. They are able to grasp these from different perspectives, reflect on them and relate them to their own subject. Thanks to their thematic focus on this field, they also have an overview of medieval studies through the interdisciplinary breadth, the multi-perspective approach to different areas of medieval studies and the transdisciplinary way of thinking and working on medieval objects and questions.

Elective Module 2: Fundamentals of the History of the Middle Ages (10 ECTS-Credits; 5 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: The students have an orientation and overview knowledge of the history of the Middle Ages on the basis of key questions and guidelines. Acquisition of basic skills in dealing with historical sources and representations of the Middle Ages as well as the ability to present the newly acquired knowledge in oral and written form; acquisition of elementary knowledge and application of relevant auxiliary scientific methods.

The individual modules and courses of the Minor "Language - Space - Society" may be studied, providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor "Language - Space - Society" know the basic theories and methods of sociolinguistics, human geography, European ethnology, history or sociology. They understand language as a social phenomenon and can recognise, reflect and analyse processes of social transformation in the context of their socio-spatial anchoring. They know about the importance of social and regional spaces for the development of social relations and cultural conflicts. They are able to describe and critically question the mutual relationship between language, space and society on the basis of scientific methods and theories. They can relate the knowledge they have acquired to their own field of study and thus expand their ability to reflect on social processes.

Learning Outcome: The students have knowledge of basic positions in cultural theory and develop an awareness of problems in cultural studies. Students can formulate regional-specific questions in consideration of critical reflection of social perception categories. They are able to identify and classify cultural studies research approaches and to answer research questions by using adequate methods.

Learning Outcome: Students have exemplary knowledge of the worldwide interconnections of historical developments and the interdependencies between historical micro and macro levels. They can substantiate and critically discuss the special epistemological opportunities of global or small-scale perspectives on history on the basis of selected examples. Furthermore, they are able to argue the linkage of empirical research to questions in the theory of science or to social and political framework conditions on the basis of central paradigms.
