Minors (Complementary Subject Areas) für Bachelor's Programmes at the University of Innsbruck
Minor: Digital Humanities (DH) (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor "Digital Humanities" covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides for the opportunity to pass a Minor. (2) The Minor may be passed providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: (1) Graduates of the Minor Digital Humanities have acquired the theoretical basic knowledge of computer-based applications and information technology procedures in the humanities and cultural studies. (2) Graduates have advanced knowledge of the most common methods in Digital Humanities as well as their fields of application and can put them into practice. (3) Graduates are able to recognise the opportunities and challenges associated with digitisation, to explain and contrast them. They are able to analyse problems about the impact of the digital transformation of society as well as the humanities and cultural studies, to recognise relevant contextual factors and to critically assess them.

Learning Outcome: Students can explain the basics of programming, data management and data analysis. They are able to deal systematically with data and metadata and have acquired the skills to organise, classify and model data. They are able to independently carry out the datafication of smaller inventories in humanities and cultural studies.

Minor: Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck, if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor. (2) The individual modules and courses of the Minor Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis may be studied, provided the availability of places. (3) Students of the Bachelor's Programme German Philology may not select the Minor Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis.
Learning Outcome: (1) Graduates of the Minor Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis are familiar with a broad spectrum of methods for the collection, processing and evaluation of language date (including methods of text analysis, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, sociolinguistics, especially variation linguistics, qualitative and quantitative methods, digital methods). They are able to apply different methods and tools for the analysis of language data, to assess the suitability of methods for specific questions and types of language data (spoken and written language data, multimedia/multimodal data, historical language data) and to use the acquired knowledge for questions from their own disciplines. (2) Graduates of the Minor "Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis" are able to reflect on the specific (e.g. medial) characteristics of different types of linguistic data, to apply different methods and tools of linguistic data analysis to questions and problems in the profession and science, to critically deal with the social relevance of linguistic data and the methods of their analysis.
From the following elective modules, one module covering 10 ECTS-Credits must be selected.

Learning Outcome: Die Studierenden erlangen in zwei linguistischen Themenfeldern (wahlweise Medienanalyse, linguistischer Spezialbereich oder neuere Sprachgeschichte) die Fertigkeit, Grundlagen dieses Feldes zu benennen und zu charakterisieren; sie kennen den Forschungsstand und die Literatur.

Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students are able to describe areas of application of the Digital Humanities. They are able to describe metadata and strategies of data modelling. They have the skills to name Open Access solutions for different requirements. They can demonstrate the use of XML-TEI for literary editions and can critically assess Digital Humanities and their limitations.
