Prerequisites for registration: positive completion of compulsory module 10

Learning Outcome: Overview of the development of North American literature from the beginnings to the present; familiarity with various literary genres and major works; insights into the development of American literature, including intellectual, social and political aspects, with special attention to ethnic literature; treatment of selected works and themes of American literature.

Learning Outcome: In-depth dealing with concepts and theories of literary, culture and media science; (in-ter)cultural competence in the area of literary, cultural and media science regarding to the study programme of English and American Studies, this means in-depth knowledge of specific socio-cultural contexts and the ability to critically and objectively examine cultural, social and political problems of cultures of the English-speaking world in a well-grounded way

INFO Master's Programme English and American Studies according to the curriculum 2009 (120 ECTS-Credits, 4 semesters)

Elective modules corresponding to altogether 80 ECTS-Credits must be passed, whereby at least two elective modules must be passed from elective modules no. 1, no. 2 and no.3, and at least one module from elective modules no. 4, 5 and 6 as well as elective modules no. 7, no. 8 and no. 9. In place of the elective module Interdisciplinary Skills (no. 10) and Individual Choice of Specialisation (no. 11), complementary modules can be passed, providing the availability of places. Complementary modules are specified modules from other curricula corresponding to 30 ECTS-Credits. They are disclosed in the University of Innsbruck Bulletin.

Learning Outcome: The students can independently apply their acquired knowledge of American film and media
history as well as critically reflect and deepen their knowledge in film, media and cultural science
concepts and theories. They are able to acquire (inter) cultural competences in film studies
and cultural studies as well as to critically reflect and integrate them into their own activities.

Minors (Complementary Subject Areas) for Master's Programmes at the University of Innsbruck

Minor (Complementary Subject Area): Film Studies (30 ECTS-Credits)

Prerequisites for registration: (1) Das Wahlpaket "Filmwissenschaft" kann von ordentlichen Studierenden der an der Universität Innsbruck eingerichteten Masterstudien gewählt werden, sofern im entsprechenden Curriculum die Möglichkeit, ein Wahlpaket zu absolvieren, vorgesehen ist. (2) Die einzelnen Module und Lehrveranstaltungen des Wahlpakets "Filmwissenschaft" können nach Maßgabe freier Plätze studiert werden. (3) Studierende können eine Lehrveranstaltung entweder dem Fachstudium oder dem Wahlpaket zuordnen. Eine doppelte Zuordnung ist nicht zulässig. (4) Vorkenntnisse in Englisch auf dem Niveau B2 nach dem Gemeinsamen Europäischen Referenzrahmen für Sprachen (GERS) werden vorausgesetzt.

Learning Outcome: Die Absolventinnen und Absolventen des Wahlpakets "Filmwissenschaft" verfügen über hoch spezialisiertes Wissen sowie Problemlösungsfertigkeiten und filmanalytische Kompetenzen im Bereich der Film- und Mediengeschichte, der Filmtheorie und der filmkulturellen Praxis. Sie können filmwissenschaftliche Fragen auf hohem methodischem Niveau erarbeiten, kritisch reflektieren, kreativ beantworten und ihr Wissen zielgruppenorientiert kommunizieren. Sie verfügen über interkulturelle Kompetenzen in der Film- und Kulturwissenschaft und sind in der Lage, komplexe Wissensgebiete aus interdisziplinären und transnationalen Perspektiven zu erschließen.

Learning Outcome: Die Studierenden können ihr erworbenes Wissen zur amerikanischen Film- und Mediengeschichte selbstständig anwenden und kritisch reflektieren. Sie verfügen über fortgeschrittene Kenntnis in film-, medien- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Konzepten und Theorien und können diese im Zuge selbstständigen wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens zusammenführen, um kreative Lösungen in ihren jeweiligen disziplinären Wissensbereichen zu finden.
