Sommersemester 2019 | Stand: 02.12.2021 | LV auf Merkliste setzenPrerequisite for MANG 4446: MANG 3401 (Introduction to Management & Org. Behavior). Students may receive graduate credit for only one of MANG 4446, MANG 5446 or MANG 6446. Primary attention of this course will be focused on the comparative study of the practice of management in selected countries under different environmental conditions. The economic, legal, political, social, and cultural differences and the effects of these differences upon business objectives, plans, organization, and operation will be examined.
This course intention is to reflect main insights into differences and cohesions of global environments, cultures, and regulations and develop internationally successful market strategies and collaborative leadership. Students are equipped to investigate into different businesses and their specificities through literature review, discussion, case study analysis and (online) guest speakers from diverse international businesses/NPO’s. Students will identify the importance of the specific resources and capabilities needed for international management; develop their reflective capabilities to assess the attractiveness of current and potential (e-)markets; assess the strategic (SMART) fit of differentiating competencies with attractive markets; learn how to implement adequate organizational structures, and establish culturally sensitive and participative leadership.
Students will use e-case studies (within the environment of the European region) and other methods to: (1) build and enhance their understanding of the constraints faced by managers within a global business setting, and (2) develop their ability to analyze/discuss the decisions made by managers given these constraints.
At the end of this course students will be able to
• understand the impact of different cultures, environments, and ethical concerns on the success of global companies and networks,
• understand and find solutions for the particular problems of globally managing non-profit, B2B automotive industry, e-services and tourism businesses
• determine and justify the best suited growth / entry mode in selected markets,
• discuss the selection of and relationship management with distribution partners, and
• develop international multi-channel sales and marketing strategies
• are equipped with the knowledge on how to strengthen, co-develop and co-construct a reinventing global corporate brand
Additionally, students will foster
- their ability to assess, select and apply reflective strategic tools,
- their problem solving and decision making capabilities as individuals as well as within collaborative teams,
- their ability to echo the implications of global management processes,
- as well as their skills in blending and presenting results.
During this course students will experience modern online didactics “e-case clinic” (based on methods of the PRESENCING INSTITUTE TOOLKIT ©by Otto Scharmer.
This course uses a learning approach in which you are active participants. It is based on the idea of involved, explorative learning in an open class environment. It deploys a mixture of lectures, group work, presentations and discussions. The instructors see themselves as learning coaches and mentors, rather than as lecturers.
The University of New Orleans International Summer School program has a mandatory class attendance policy. All students are required to attend class for all morning classes and any required afternoon and/or weekend fields trips and lectures. No unexcused absences are allowed. However, LFU students who have to miss a UNO class due to LFU examinations in the first two weeks of our program, can receive one excused absence for this. Any further unexcused absences will result in an academic penalty. Each faculty member determines the penalty for missed classes. Most professors deduct a letter grade for each additional missed class day. For details, please refer to your course syllabi, which will be distributed on the first day of class. The listed ECTS credits are a recommendation by the University of New Orleans Innsbruck Summer School, based on contact hours, anticipated out-of-classroom requirements such as field trips, and projected workload for readings, assignments, and exam preparation.
