Students will be able not only to reconstruct the subject of pastoral theology in terms of discourse theory, but also to realize it in pastoral practice in an independent and creative way.

"Where theology meets reality..." is how the implicit motto of this lecture could be formulated with the advertising trailer of a TV program. It is about the intellectually challenging adventure of processing the great narratives of theology from the small stories of everyday life. And this in a way that brings one's own experience into play also on the level of corresponding theory building. Pastoral theology is presented as the theological discipline whose representatives permanently run back and forth between the practical field of the present and the discourse archives of the past (lat. discurrere) - that is: conduct a 'discourse' on the potential creativity of precisely this difference. The resulting contrasts will first be explored from the discourse archive of pastoral theology and then in their theological dignity at exemplary places of practice. The goal is to practice the pastoral competence of doing a 'small pastoral theology' in and for one's own context within the aforementioned differences at one's own place: curious, attentive and close to the ground.
