Students acquire the ability to demonstrate and explain the behaviour of voters, political parties and the media in democracies theory-driven and with empirical findings. They know how to explain the function of political communication and the logics of media-centred democracy.

In this seminar, the basics of election research and political communication are taught. We will discuss applications of some established election research approaches. However, the focus is on media, media consumption, and their influence on electoral behaviour. Topics such as polarisation, social media, and ideological framing will be discussed. We will further analyse and critically evaluate established data sets and surveys. The literature is mainly in English.
