Minor: Ancient Near Eastern Languages (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor "Ancient Near Eastern Languages" covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's and diploma programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides for the opportunity to pass a Minor.
(2) The individual modules and courses of the Minor "Ancient Near Eastern Languages" may be passed providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor "Ancient Near Eastern Languages" are able to present and independently use theories and tools of historical language research and philology. On the basis of their acquired and deepened language competences, they can classify different languages of the Ancient Near East and its contact zones and independently describe and edit them linguistically and philologically. They recognise the cultural and socio-political backgrounds of the emergence and spread of various ancient oriental writing systems. They can derive and analyse commonalities and differences as well as the underlying diachronic and synchronic language change processes from the languages and language families dealt with. They sharpen their logical thinking and broaden their sensibility and understanding for foreign ways of expression through the confrontation with foreign cultures and forms of society.
Minor: Austrian Studies (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor "Austrian Studies" covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides for the opportunity to pass a Minor.
(2) The individual modules and courses of the Minor "Austrian Studies" can be studied providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: The Minor "Austrian Studies" bundles subjects from four faculties of the Leopold-Franzens-University (the Faculty of Philosophy and History, the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences). They all deal with the area of the former Habsburg Monarchy and its successor states in essential areas of their research as well as in their teaching and use different temporal as well as theoretical-methodological approaches in researching this common 'space' and the questions associated with it. ¿Austrian¿ is understood as a 'cultural space' produced by different societies along the time axis from the Holy Roman Empire via the Habsburg Monarchy, the First Republic and the Second World War to the Second Republic with the subsequent bloc formation, the consequences of 1989 and EU membership in 1995 up to the immediate present of Austria in the European and global context.
Graduates of the Minor "Austrian Studies" have advanced knowledge of the history and culture of Central and Southeast-Central Europe. They recognise the importance of political and social structures for social, legal and economic processes as well as for cultural developments (architecture, visual arts, literature, music, etc.) in this region in its historical depth and in its interconnectedness and they are able to interpret and classify current processes. They are therefore able to apply the acquired knowledge and the findings derived from it to the solution of relevant problems in their individual scientific and later professional field of activity. Through the Minor, students have a thematically as well as spatially focused complement to their respective major studies, based on key aspects of predominantly other disciplines in the field. Furthermore, they are able to develop interdisciplinary questions, to work on them accordingly and to present their results. In the joint development and discussion of the issues, they have also acquired social skills and are able to work in a team.
Minor: China/Taiwan/East Asia (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) Das Wahlpaket China/Taiwan/Ostasien im Umfang von 30 ECTS-AP kann von ordentlichen Studierenden der an der Universität Innsbruck eingerichteten Bachelor- und Masterstudien gewählt werden, sofern im entsprechenden Curriculum die Möglichkeit, ein Wahlpaket zu absolvieren, vorgesehen ist.
(2) Die einzelnen Module und Lehrveranstaltungen des Wahlpakets China/Taiwan/Ostasien können nach Maßgabe freier Plätze studiert werden.
Learning Outcome: (1) Absolventinnen und Absolventen des Wahlpakets China/Taiwan/Ostasien verfügen über Kenntnisse des Chinesischen auf dem Niveau A1/A2 des Europäischen Referenzrahmens sowie über ein grundlegendes Verständnis des Sprach- und Kulturraums China/Taiwan/Ostasien.
(2) Die Absolventinnen und Absolventen sind in der Lage
- die Chinesische Sprache elementar zu gebrauchen sowie diese Fertigkeiten selbständig auszubauen;
- die historisch gewachsene politische, gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Vielfalt Ostasiens (sowohl mit Blick auf die historische Dominanz des chinesischen Kultur- und Wirtschaftsraums als auch im Sinne einer Autonomie moderner Nationen sowie Kultur- und Sprachgemeinschaften) zu verstehen und sich kritisch mit ihr auseinanderzusetzen;
- die für das kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Ganze Ostasiens charakteristischen Spannungsfelder (zwischen Traditionen und Modernität, regionalen und kosmopolitischen Weltbildern, Subkulturen und offiziell repräsentierter Kultur) zu erkennen;
- Bezüge zwischen ihrem jeweiligen Studienfach und dem Kulturraum China/Taiwan/Ostasien wahrzunehmen und auszuarbeiten;
- in Bezug auf das eigene Studienfach und den Sprach- und Kulturraum China/Taiwan/Ostasien interdisziplinär zusammenzuarbeiten.
Minor: Classics (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor "Classics" covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor.
(2) The individual modules and courses of the Minor "Classics" may be studied, providing the availability of places.
(3) Students of the Bachelor's Programme Classica et Orientalia may not pass the Minor "Classics".
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor "Classics" have acquired a broad overview of the literature and culture of classical antiquity in its historical context. They have also gained an insight in either the philosophy or the art of antiquity. They are competent in dealing with significant texts, myths, ideas and events from antiquity and are aware of the reception processes through which these are present in the cultural memory of posterity up to the present day.
Minor: Digital Humanities (DH) (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor "Digital Humanities" covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by regular degree students of bachelor¿s programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides for the opportunity to pass a Minor.
(2) The Minor may be passed providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: (1) Graduates of the Minor Digital Humanities have acquired the theoretical basic knowledge of computer-based applications and information technology procedures in the humanities and cultural studies.
(2) Graduates have advanced knowledge of the most common methods in Digital Humanities as well as their fields of application and can put them into practice.
(3) Graduates are able to recognise the opportunities and challenges associated with digitisation, to explain and contrast them. They are able to analyse problems about the impact of the digital transformation of society as well as the humanities and cultural studies, to recognise relevant contextual factors and to critically assess them.
Minor: Digital Science (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: If the respective curriculum provides the possibility, the Complementary Subject Area in Digital Science covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by degree students of Bachelor's and Master's programmes at the University of Innsbruck.
The complementary subject area can be selected, provided the availability of places.
For courses that are used synergistically, the regulations regarding the procedure for the allocation of places in courses with limited number of participants as well as the examination regulations of the curriculum, the course examination or the module have been taken from, in the respectively valid version, apply.
Only course examinations may be taken which have not yet been passed within the scope of study programmes for which the students are admitted to.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Complementary Subject Area Digital Science will be able to understand basic digi-tal methods in the fields of programming, data analysis and data management and to apply them to solving relevant issues in their field of science, particularly in the humanities, social sciences and economics.
Graduates of the Complementary Subject Area in Digital Science are able

¿ to select and apply data analysis procedures in the context of their own field of study,

Minor: Society and Politics (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The minor 'Society and Politics' covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by degree students of Bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck, providing the relevant curriculum allows for the option to pass a minor.
Students of the Bachelor's Programme in Political Science and the Bachelor's Programme in Sociology may not pass the minor 'Society and Politics'.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the minor "Society and Politics" know the basic theories of political science and sociological theories, know about the influence of social and political structures and systems on human behaviour and social processes and are able to apply this knowledge to the solution of relevant problems from their field in science.
Minor: Communicative Skills for the Profession (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The Minor Communicative Skills for the Profession covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor Communicative Skills for the Profession can plan written and oral communication processes in a goal-oriented manner, carry them out appropriately and evaluate them critically as well as classify, analyse and assess writing products and rhetorical genres. They possess the competence to critically analyse oral and written communication, especially from professional practice and the media, with regard to the argumentative, stylistic and multimodal techniques observed in each case. They can assess the respective special characteristics and requirements of oral and written communication and take them into account appropriately in their own communication behaviour.
Minor: Comparative Literature: Literature - Culture - Media (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The Minor Comparative Literature: Literature - Culture - Media covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor.
The individual modules and courses of the Minor Comparative Literature: Literature - Culture - Media may be studied, providing the availability of places.
Students of the Bachelor's Programme in Comparative Literature may not pass the minor Comparative Literature: Literature - Culture - Media.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor Comparative Literature: Literature - Culture - Media have a first insight into the entire breadth of the subject of Comparative Literature (General and Comparative Literary Studies). They have - from the general point of view of the transgression of disciplinary, medial and linguistic-cultural boundaries in view of the international or globalised production, distribution, reception and communication of artistic and cultural phenomena - a knowledge of current positions in literary studies and are competent in dealing with texts of world literary significance, with literature and art in the areas of inter-/transculturality and intermediality as well as with theories of literature, culture and media.
Minor: Culture and Management in Context (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The Minor Culture and Management in Context covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor.
Learning Outcome: Graduates are able to understand and apply basic theories and practices of management and organisation in the field of arts and culture, to combine and systematically reflect on theory and insights into organisational practices of organisations in the arts and culture sector, as well as to critically reflect and reappraise concrete organisational practices and to build up an intellectually critical as well as practically relevant repertoire in thinking and acting.
Minor: Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck, if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor.
(2) The individual modules and courses of the Minor Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis may be studied, provided the availability of places.
(3) Students of the Bachelor's Programme German Philology may not select the Minor Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis.
Learning Outcome: (1) Graduates of the Minor Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis are familiar with a broad spectrum of methods for the collection, processing and evaluation of language date (including methods of text analysis, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, sociolinguistics, especially variation linguistics, qualitative and quantitative methods, digital methods). They are able to apply different methods and tools for the analysis of language data, to assess the suitability of methods for specific questions and types of language data (spoken and written language data, multimedia/multimodal data, historical language data) and to use the acquired knowledge for questions from their own disciplines.
(2) Graduates of the Minor "Methods of Empirical Language Data Analysis" are able to reflect on the specific (e.g. medial) characteristics of different types of linguistic data, to apply different methods and tools of linguistic data analysis to questions and problems in the profession and science, to critically deal with the social relevance of linguistic data and the methods of their analysis.
Minor: Methods of Empirical Social Research (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The minor Methods of Empirical Research covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by degree students of Bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck, providing the relevant curriculum allows for the option to pass a minor.
The minor can be passed, providing the availability of places.
Students of the Bachelor's Programme in Political Science and the Bachelor's Programme in Sociology may not pass the minor Methods of Empirical Research.
Learning Outcome: (1) Graduates of the minor Methods in Empirical Social Research know the characteristics of qualitative and quantitative social research, are aware of the special features of data collection and data evaluation and are capable of understanding basic social-scientific methods (such as questionnaires, interviews, analysis of content, discourse, text and network) and statistical procedures (hypothesis tests and regression analyses) and apply them to the solution of pertinent problems from their field of research.
(2) The graduates are able
- to develop social science research designs and implement them in the context of their own field of study,
- to select and apply methods in social science in the context of their own field of study
- to collect and evaluate data independently.
Minor: Media and Communication (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The minor Media and Communication covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by degree students of Bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck, providing the relevant curriculum allows for the option to pass a minor.
The minor can be passed, providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: (1) Graduates of the minor Media and Communication know fundamental theories and methods of media and communication research. They are able to analyse and reflect on media and communication processes in individual, social and international environments. They are able of applying their knowledge to work on relevant problems in their area of science.
(2) Graduates of the minor Media and Communication are able
- to understand and apply theories and models in media and communication research, - to model, analyse and reflect on media and communication processes,
- to establish media references in the context of their own field of study,
- to classify technologically and ideologically abridged views of media and communications dynamics.
Minor: Media, Language, Culture (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor "Media, Language, Culture" covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by regular degree students of bachelor¿s programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides for the opportunity to pass a Minor.

Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor "Media, Language, Culture" possess knowledge and competences in the field of theoretical, analytical and applied examination of media and media communication. They can present and discuss different approaches and methods of analysis from the field of linguistics and media studies as well as from the field of cultural and literary studies (e.g. film analysis, comparative media studies, gender studies) and can apply them to different questions. They have knowledge of media in different cultural areas and can critically discuss media systems, media design and media effects. Through knowledge of approaches from different disciplines, graduates are able to describe media and media products from different perspectives, to recognise connections and to apply their media-related competences also in interdisciplinary contexts.
Minor: Medieval Studies (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The Minor Medieval Studies covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor.
The individual modules and courses of the Minor Medieval Studies may be studied, providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor Medieval Studies know fundamental theories, methods and contents of medieval studies. They are able to grasp these from different perspectives, reflect on them and relate them to their own subject. Thanks to their thematic focus on this field, they also have an overview of medieval studies through the interdisciplinary breadth, the multi-perspective approach to different areas of medieval studies and the transdisciplinary way of thinking and working on medieval objects and questions.
Minor: Sustainability (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The minor Sustainability covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by degree students of Bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck, providing the relevant curriculum allows for the option to pass a minor.
The minor can be passed, providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: (1) The minor Sustainability at the University of Innsbruck is aimed at students who wish to place specialist knowledge acquired in their studies in the context of ecologically, socially and economically sustainable development.
(2) The minor Sustainability is based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. The SDGs are understood as a global plan of action for people, planet and prosperity, whose explicit goal is to counteract inequalities and "leave no one behind". The diversity of the topics addressed and to be deal with, between which there are numerous tensions, is at the same time the strength and weakness of Agenda 2030. This variety is reflected in the minor.
(3) Graduates of the minor Sustainability
- have an understanding for systemically networked thinking,
- have the ability to handle multidimensional and complex decision situations, which have economic, ecological and social restrictions, to analyse them and name the conditions for participatory and fair decision-making,
- have developed an understanding of power structures that sustain the exploitation of human and non-human beings,
- have basic knowledge of the phenomenon of climate change,
- have knowledge of sustainable use of resources in different areas,
- understand how education systems contribute to maintaining or overcoming unsustainable structures,
- are aware of the challenges of sustainable development in a wide range of practical fields and have relevant knowledge in selected specialist areas that complement the field of their Bachelor's programme,
- have an advanced ability to think and act in a transdisciplinary way and have the ability to consider the sustainability perspective in different professional fields as well as to promote its implementation.
Minor: Eastern European Studies (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor Eastern European Studies covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor.
(2) The individual modules and courses of the Minor Eastern European Studies may be studied, providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor Eastern European Studies have language skills in Russian or Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian or Polish at level A1/A2. They have an overview knowledge of the Slavic languages and cultures of Eastern, East-Central and South-Eastern Europe as well as specialised knowledge of the history, society, art or politics of this region.
Minor: Religion - History - Christianity (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor Religion - History - Christianity covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by students of bachelor's programmes offered at the University of Innsbruck if the corresponding curriculum provides the opportunity to pass a minor.
(2) The individual modules and courses of the minor can be passed, providing the availability of places.
(3) Each course is either allocated to the study programme or the minor. Double allocation is not permissible. Students of the Bachelor's Programme in Catholic Religious Education, the Bachelor's Secondary School Teacher Training in the subject of Catholic Religion and the Bachelor's Programme in Philosophy at the Faculty for Catholic Theology may not pass the Minor Religion - History - Christianity in any case.
Learning Outcome: The graduates of the Minor Religion - History - Christianity have acquired advanced knowledge in the field of religious studies and in particular of Christianity with its historical, textual and ritual foundations. They are able to analyse the role of Christianity as an important culture-forming factor in human history, have thereby broadened their perspective on the complex phenomenon of human culture and are able to explain the connections between religion and culture in a factual manner appropriate to the respective situation.
Minor: Language - Space - Society (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: The minor Language - Space - Society covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck, if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a minor.
The individual modules and courses of the Minor Language - Space - Society may be studied, providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor Language - Space - Society know the basic theories and methods of sociolinguistics, human geography, European ethnology, history or sociology. They understand language as a social phenomenon and can recognise, reflect and analyse processes of social transformation in the context of their socio-spatial anchoring. They know about the importance of social and regional spaces for the development of social relations and cultural conflicts. They are able to describe and critically question the mutual relationship between language, space and society on the basis of scientific methods and theories. They can relate the knowledge they have acquired to their own field of study and thus expand their ability to reflect on social processes.
Minor: Translation: Translating and Interpreting (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor "Translation: Translating and Interpreting" covering 30 ECTS-Credits may be selected by regular degree students of bachelor's programmes at the University of Innsbruck, if the respective curriculum provides the possibility to pass a Minor.
(2) The individual modules and courses of the Minor "Translation: Translating and Interpreting" may be studied, providing the availability of places.
(3) The Minor is passed in the mother tongue or language of education and one foreign language. The following languages can be selected: German, English, French, Italian, Spanish and Russian. Passing the Minor requires a command of the two chosen languages at level B2+ (CEFR).
(4) Students of the Bachelor's Programme in Translation Studies may not pass the Minor "Translation: Translating and Interpreting".
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor "Translation: Translating and Interpreting" know the differences and special features of the various forms, modes and settings of translation and have developed an awareness of the necessity of professional translation. They have gained a first insight into the activity of professional translation and interpreting as well as into translation studies.
