602023 VO Contemporary Philosophy: Lecture Series: Current Questions in Democratic Theory
summer semester 2022 | Last update: 09.01.2023 | Place course on memo listDemocracy is in a global crisis: authoritarian populism threatens democratic discourse by claiming exclusive representation of "the people"; established parties and institutions lose their legitimacy; and democratic deliberation seems to be increasingly replaced by expert decision making.
In such a time of crisis, it is necessary to reflect on the fundamental concepts and conditions of our living-together. This lecture series aims at (1) giving a general introduction into democratic theory, (2) shedding light on contemporary theoretical debates and (3) providing critical analyses of present democratic crises and transformation processes.
