603413 PS Standard Literature in the Educational and Social Sciences
summer semester 2022 | Last update: 16.02.2022 | Place course on memo listThe students train themselves in understanding scientific texts. They expand their ability to read analytically and to express themselves orally and in writing, and thus also get the opportunity to further develop their own critical faculties.
Education and upbringing always take place in a social context. The seminar aims to raise awareness of this contextualisation and, in the sense of a diagnosis of the present, asks in which social fields of conflict education and upbringing stand today. Questions of the economisation of education will be addressed as well as the question of what it means that education and upbringing take place within the framework of neoliberal guidelines. How do these guidelines affect education and upbringing and how are these phenomena recorded, described and reflected in their problematic effects in the social sciences?
In addition to contemporary diagnoses following Michel Foucault, Slavoj Žižek and others, we will also take a detour to some classics of educational theory (Kant, Humbold).

The seminar is intended as a reading seminar. The focus is on the joint development of text comprehension and discussion. The texts of the seminar plan are to be read in advance by all seminar participants. This reading also counts as a performance record.
