Literary Studies as Cultural Studies: Post-apocalyptic Imaginations in Literature and Film

The purpose of the lecture is to present the key concepts of the relationship between literature and other forms of cultural articulation.
While conceived as an introduction to the dystopian genre from a cultural and media perspective, the lecture will focus on literary and cinematographic works in which post-apocalyptic imaginations play a major role. In particular, it will explore the relationship between post-apocalyptic narratives and globalization processes. Among others, the course will discuss novels such as The Road by Cormac McCarthy and movies such as Children of Man and Mad Max: Fury Road.
