Students identify the relevant microbial processes in a biological waster water treatment plant. They know the analytical parameters of water quality monitoring and how to measure them. Students have gained practical experience in the handling of toxic chemicals and potentially hazardous microorganisms.
A bench-scale waste water treatment plant is operated by the students for a week. Samples are being taken and analysed for carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus parameters. Also the biomass is qualified and quantified.
