Objectives of the Seminar are on the one hand, the mastery of basic concepts of Science Communication and the acquisition of basic skills in dealing with the media (including the adequate preparation of scientific topics for the media); the other hand, the seminar is to encourage a differentiated view of the presence of science in the public and/or in the media.
The presentation of research and its results to the general public offers opportunities for science, but also responsibility and problems. Who wants to interest the public on complex research topics and scientific contents, must be able to transmit knowledge in an understandable, coherent and plausible way. The seminar seeks to examine how science and its different “cultures of knowledge” are presented in the media, which influence science has on its media presence, the benefits but also the difficulties that are connected with this process. On the basis of relevant readings on the topic and practical examples (formats, initiatives and programs of Science Communication) the relationship between science, media and the public is reflected in the seminar.
Shared reading and analysis of publications and articles on science communication. Individual articles and topics are prepared by the participants of the Seminar in form of keynote speeches, then discussed in common and the results combined by means of protocols.
Attendance, keynote presentation, discussion willingness, active cooperation.
