Basic knowledge of actors, processes, structures in international relations

Just like any other scientific disciplin International Relations (IR) is based on certain epistemological interests. From the very beginning IRs interest has been the promotion of peace. With regard to those interests, the proseminar will give an overview over fundamental terms and views as well as theoretical approaches in the field. We will deal with interests, actors and instruments in foreign affairs, the conditions for international cooperation or conflict, concepts of world order, power and peace as well as the future of nation states and transnationalism. Within this methodological framework we want to examine current international politics covering selected specific relations such as transatlantic relations or the north-south divide.

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).
