Students get basic knowledge of political communication and the media. They also acquire practical knowledge in the areas of political communication, public service work and the media.
Political, economical and technical changes have lead to new forms of information policy in the European Union.
Aspects of national and transnational media concentration and
interdependencies are playing a crucial role. The European Commission has a significant function in the field of anti-trust law and in the field of subventions. In the context of the European Reporting national and transnational media are an important factor. Does a European Public or a European Journalism already exist? How can decisions on the European level be made more comprehensible and transparent fort he European Citizens?
In the lecture three levels of current developments in media policy are analyzed and discussed: (EU, national state and citizens):
(1) EU-Media Policy with the focus on the stress field between culture and economics, as well as the analysis of media policy in certain EU-countries (horizontal level)
(2) Public Relation oft he Europan Union and the reporting on European Affairs in certain countries (vertical aspect)
(3) The role of networking with the focus on transnational reporting (e.g. ARTE, Euronews), multinational corporate groups and journalistic associations (linkage of both levels)
