Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art: An historical introduction to aesthetics

Knowledge of the most important concepts, methods and theories of aesthetics, especially the relation between aesthetics, modern subjectivity and technique; student should also be able to analyze these contents, put them in relation and further develop them independently.

The course aims at delineating  the origin of aesthetics in  modernity and analyzing the development of its concepts, methods and problems in the most important representative authors and moments of its history. The themes that will be taken in special considerations are: the philosophical value of taste, the beauty in  art and in  nature, the relationship between aesthetics and the modern subject, ontology and art, technique and art.
