Students should be able to analyze the musical and cultural event of the Eurovision Song Contest by using different scientific approaches.

The Eurovision Song Contest is not only a media spectacle: Based on the medium of music, social, individual and national identities are negotiated and discussed in a broad European public. This course will focus on the ESC as a musical and cultural event in historical context, and aims to impart analytical approaches from the aspects of nation, identity and gender studies. The observation of the ESC 2015 in Austria in terms of a self-chosen issue will be a main topic for the students project papers.

Evaluation on the basis of regular written and oral contributions.

Course examination according to § 7, part of the statute on the study law of Innsbruck University. Oral and written contributions.
