Basic facts of prostitution in antiquity and of cultural and socio-historical methods.
The regulation of sexual behaviour in ancient societies was handled in different ways. Among these behaviours prostitution was a very prominent one. The lecture deals with descriptions of various forms of prostitution in ancient sources and with discussions of this cultur- and socio-historical phenomenon in modern scholarship.
Lecture and presentation of facts, results of research and scholarly debates, discussion and collaborative critical analyses of sources.
oral presentation, written elaboration (due on day of final exam; max. 5 pages text + bibliography) and final exam
