Reflections on the concept and practice of historical sociation.

The authorship of Gaismair’s Landesordnung (a socio-political program) has recently been the subject of fierce debate. This was less a tangible utopia that triggered an uprising than a text set within the context of a major rebellion that started in the south-west of Germany and reached the central Alps in May 1525. In this course we will examine possible connections between new media, literacy, economic expansion, religious new beginnings and sensitivities relating to basic rights in the light of the current communications revolution. The course has been prompted by Ernst Gossner’s documentary about Gaismair, which is due to be released in 2016.

Preparatory phase, brief presentations incl. discussion, group work incl. reading of (source) texts.

Continuous participation, presentation and written paper.
