Mediation of an overview of Middle Europe’s development of food culture from the middle ages up to modern times.

Eating and drinking belong to the basic needs of mankind, they are adapted to the various living conditions and are subjected to historical change. Over the centuries, the supply of food depended of the seasons and furthermore it was the church’s calendar with its fasting days that decided what came onto the table. The focus of this lecture lies on food supply and ways of feeding in the course of time as well as on the various factors, which influenced the role of eating and drinking within a society.

Lecture with consideration of collegiate feedback (discoursive reinforcements etc.).

Written examination at the end of term (02/07/2015)
