Knowledge of the fundamental methods and results of conversation lingustics

The spoken variety of German will be the key aspect of the course. The differences between spoken and written language as well as the characteristics of Austrian dialects will be discussed. Basic concepts of phonetics and phonology and central theories of linguistic pragmatics will be presented. We shall focus on the analysis of conversations and communicative genres. Finally, we shall deal with some important areas and fields of application of conversation linguistics.

Lecture with audiovisual aids togethter with interactive development of content.
