Due to global trends such as the increased labor force participation of women, the growing presence of dual-earner couples and single parents in the labor force, and changing values regarding the importance of life balance, individuals' work decisions are being increasingly influenced by family conditions.

This seminar deals with the problems of balancing work and family. The focus lies on theoretical, methodological and practical issues of coping with conflicts between different life-domains. Students present and discuss topics like:  (1) work–family conflicts, (2) work-stress and role-stress, (3), work schedules (4) career and job-related outcomes, (5) impact on health and wellbeing (6) family status (7) gender and the relationship between work and family domains, (8) family-friendly workplaces.

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).
