 Over the last 10 years research practices in psychology have undergone substantial changes. Research is increasingly conducted online; traditional litertaure reviews have been superseded by meta-analyses; statististical significance tests are but one of several techniques to examine the statistical reliability of research findings (e.g., effect size indicators and confidence intervals); greater imporance is given to brevity and general intelligibility in research reports; publication practices have also changed considerably with the advent of open-access and e-journals. Students will acquire skills that will enable them to meet the new challenges in the planning, the running and the publication of their current and/or future research. This seminar will be particularly useful for research-active students who intend to submit their work for publication.  

Effect-Sizes, Contrast-analysis; Power-analysis; Meta-Analysis and other forms of data-integration; Scientific prose; Publication skills.  

Students present their BA-Thesis (or their empirical-experimental seminar assignment if the BA thesis was not empirical) in form of oral presentations that incorporate the skills acquired during the seminar. Based on the received feedback they write up the research in form of a short report (max 1500 words). The report is expected to conform to APA guidelines for manuscript preparation and to meet the requirements for submission to an international professional journal.  

  Basis for the final assessment consists of the oral presentation and the short report.
