603014 Education as a Link to the World and Self-Knowledge:From the liberating idea of Bildung to the current stultification and anti-enlightenment ideas
winter semester 2016/2017 | Last update: 14.09.2023 | Place course on memo listThe goal of the course is to acquire the insight that “Bildung” originally was meant as an idea of liberation. Building on this it should be illustrated how “Bildung” is currently being instrumentalized and contributes to stultification and anti-enlightment ideas. Moreover, questions for a critical assignation of the concept of “Bildung” as well as forms of protest will be answered.
Based on the discussion on what is to be understood by the historical and present concept of “Bildung” the question of the current and dominant instrumentalization of “Bildung” with its anti-Enlightenment implications and the resulting stultification arises. Later on, based on critical positions regarding the current (and also historical) replacement of liberating ideals of “Bildung” as well as on observations of protests movements, it is concretized which conflicts and contradictions will be evoked. This illustrates how the prevailing stultification and anti-enlightment ideas can be critically addressed.
