Education as a Link to the World and Self-Knowledge: Child and Youth Work as a place of educational process

Child and Youth Work is a plural action field of Kinder- und Jugendhilfe with a specific firmly fixed educational mandate.

In the seminar we have a look at the educational mandate established by law, approach different conceptions of education, discuss actually basic approaches of  educational in Child and Youth Work and also current economic-political instrumentalization of Child and Youth Work.

 

Proposed seminar contents are (subject to modifications):

  1. Historical review of Child and Youth Work
  2. Areas of work in Child and Youth Work
  3. Education in 12th Child and Youth Services Report
  4. The point of view: How children und youths live today?
  5. Identity
  6. “Subjektbildung” as a base of emancipation. Thoughts about a Youth Work according to Albert Scherr.
  7. Child and Youth Work in social environments. What is the relationship appropriation of social environment and educational process?
  8. Participation
  9. Experential education and the question about the relations between education and experiences.
  10. What games/play have to do with education?
  11. Prevention in child and youth work. Educational dictatorship and/or “Bildung”?
  12. Child and Youth Work and school
  13. Inclusion in Child and Youth Work. 
  14. Political Education – Child and Youth Work - Right-Wing Extremism
  15. The art of awareness: To seize the moment of informal educational possibilities and to act according to this. 
  16. Supervisory: Arc of suspense between pedagogy and law?
  17. Girls education – girls work – Gender Mainstreaming
  18. Media literacy/education in Child and Youth Work
  19. Sexual diversity in Child and Youth Work

 

Topic assignment at the first or second day of the first session.

There are two ways of eximanation proceedings:

1.       Student presentations

Ø  In the seminar eights to twelfe themes could be presentated.

Ø  Some themes are restricted to present.

Ø  Each theme could be presented by maximal four students.

Ø  The length of presentation is ninety minutes.

Ø  Creation of a handout//position paper.

Ø  The presentation should be recorded.

Ø  Documentary report about the meetings before and after the presentation.

Ø  Reflection of the work in small group.

Ø  The plan of the presentation should be elaborated.

 

2.       Seminar paper

Ø  Some issues not fit for a seminar paper. Further informations

Ø  will be given on the first/second day.

Ø  Every issue can worked out by two or three students

Ø  Amount of work is between ten und twenty pages, list of literature included

Ø  The filing deadline is the second session of the seminar.
