613060 Multimedial translation I First/Second Foreign Language: Subtitling English-German
winter semester 2016/2017 | Last update: 11.05.2016 | Place course on memo listThis course will cover the theoretical and practical basics of subtitling. On completion of the course students will be able to create and edit multilingual subtitles in accordance with the quality standards for subtitling, using subtitling software. Participants will develop transfer strategies specific to multimedia translation while at the same time practising their listening comprehension skills.
Theoretical guidance on the standards of subtitling will alternate with hands-on practice on extracts from feature films, TV series, documentaries, commercials and instruction videos. Most of the clips will be in English and subtitles will be created in German.
Individual and team work; peer editing and correction.
Regular practice assignments; individual subtitling project; end-of-term test.
Handouts and video clips will be available via OLAT. Further materials and bibliographical references will be provided in class.
Participants must be enrolled in one of the master's degree programmes.
Most of the video clips will be in English, but students with other language combinations are equally welcome. Places are limited due to the limited number of available workstations.
